How It All Started

Discovering Our Shared Love of Gardening

Me and Jesse realised pretty early on in our relationship that we both had green fingers.

What started as casual chats soon turned into sharing stories about things we’d grown before, plants we liked, and the kinds of gardens we imagined having one day. It’s funny how something as simple as gardening can bring people together, but for us it quickly became one of those shared interests that we both really connected over.

Moving In and Getting to Know the Garden

Last July I moved into my flat, which came with a small garden. At the time though, life was busy and we didn’t really have the opportunity to start growing anything straight away. Instead, we spent the rest of the summer just enjoying the space as it was.

We’d sit outside in the evenings, noticing what plants were already there, watching what popped up naturally, and slowly starting to imagine what the garden could become.

Even though we weren’t planting anything yet, the ideas were already starting to grow.

Planning the Garden

Over the autumn and winter we found ourselves talking more and more about what we might do with the garden once the new growing season arrived. What vegetables we wanted to try. Whether we should grow flowers for colour. How we might use the limited space we had.

Slowly, the garden began taking shape in our heads long before anything actually went into the soil.

Garden Centre Trips and Growing Motivation

Then came the inevitable trips to the garden centres.

A few visits to B&Q and Garsons in Titchfield later, and suddenly we had more than just ideas. Seed packets started appearing. Then propagators. Bags of compost and trays for seedlings. Every visit seemed to add a few more things to the collection, and before we knew it we had the beginnings of a proper plan and a growing pile of supplies ready to go.

More importantly, we had a bundle of motivation to finally get started.

Why We Started This Blog

This blog is really about that journey. Neither of us claim to be expert gardeners, but we both love the process of growing things and learning as we go. There will probably be successes, a fair few mistakes, and hopefully plenty of things we manage to grow along the way.

We wanted somewhere to document it all, from the first seeds going into the propagator to whatever the garden eventually becomes.

So this is the start of our little gardening story.
